The year of 2019 is the first year of 5G, and it is also the year of speeding up the construction of 5G network in the experimental area. Up to now, 13 5G base stations have been opened and tested in the experimental area, aiming to realize the commercial use of 5G network in the second half of 2020.

Since last year, Pingtan has taken the lead in the field of unmanned driving. Taking advantage of its policy advantages, Pingtan has introduced Apolong, the first commercial unmanned microcirculation electric vehicle, in order to build a test base for unmanned vehicles in Fujian. As a necessary technology for unmanned driving, 5G has been first applied in the field of unmanned driving.

Today, Fujian Driverless Vehicle Test Base is located on the west side of Qilin Avenue, which has achieved full coverage of 5G network. It will create 5G application test scenario, which can carry out 5G test of vehicle network, including remote control, AR experience and so on.

"With the advent of 5G network era, unmanned driving can achieve L4 level completely unmanned driving from the technical level. Auto networking will be faster and more intelligent. After data interaction, more accurate map positioning, more complex calculation, more efficient data transmission and so on will be achieved." Chen Ying, engineer of Pingtan Intelligence Island Investment Development Co., Ltd., said.

"The characteristics of 5G network `high bandwidth and low latency will greatly improve the safety performance of driverless vehicles, enabling rapid communication between vehicles and base stations, base stations and base stations within milliseconds, and obtaining a series of real-time traffic information such as road conditions, road information, pedestrian information and so on." Chen Ying said that this will also help Pingtan to build a demonstration area of driverless driving throughout the island and promote the development and growth of the new industry of driverless driving.

In addition to the field of unmanned driving, the application of 5G network in the experimental area will gradually extend to many fields such as smart city, smart government, smart medical care, smart policing, smart family, smart tourism, smart transportation and so on.

In addition, as an important part of commercial promotion, 5G base station construction and network layout are also being promoted smoothly.

"Next, we will add more than 10 5G base stations in Taichuang Park, Pingtan Campus of Fujian Institute of Information Technology, Business Operating Center and other places, and convert 5G signals into WiFi through Huawei CPE terminal (Customer Premise Equipment, 5G user access gateway) for the use of 4G hardware. At the same time, we will strive to achieve the formal commercial use of 5G network in the second half of 2020." Zhou Kai, engineer of Pingtan Branch of China Telecom, said.
