Construction of a railway bridge connecting China and Russia is underway and is expected to be completed in June 2018.

The bridge spans the Heilongjiang (Amur) River, the boundary river between the two countries, linking Tongjiang City in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province with Nizhneleninskoye in Russia's Jewish Autonomous Oblast.

Construction of the main structures on the Chinese side has been completed and the Russian side is moving ahead with construction of the bridge pier foundations.

The main bridge spans 2,215 meters, with around 1,900 meters in China.

The bridge, the first of its kind between China and Russia, is expected to boost trade between the two countries, as well as between China and Europe. It has a designed annual shipment capacity of 21 million tons.

Construction began in February 2014.
