Southwest China's Chongqing to build over 100,000 5G base stations in 3 years

Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality plans to build over 100,000 5G base stations in the following three years in a bid to promote 5G network layout, industry cultivation and integrated application, according to a conference held last Friday.

Chongqing is expected to see the main revenues of 5G industries exceed 100 billion yuan by 2022.

By the end of April, Chongqing had already built 28,000 5G base stations. The municipality has supported some leading enterprises to accelerate the upgrading of internal and external networks with application of 5G technology, launched the 5G autonomous driving application demonstration service platform, 5G autonomous driving, 5G sightseeing and 5G live broadcasting.

According to the plan, Chongqing will accelerate the deployment of 5G networks, and strive to have 5G network coverage for all the key areas of its counties, industrial parks and ports.

Meanwhile, it will actively promote the integration of upstream and downstream sectors of the 5G industry chain, strengthen the development of the basic materials and core parts industry, and enhance the application of 5G smart terminal products.

Chongqing will also guide leading enterprises and scientific research institutions to jointly make breakthrough in 5G key technologies, promote the integration and innovation of 5G and cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence.
