The 2021 North Bund Forum, a platform crafted by Shanghai Municipal People's Government to beat drum for local shipping services, will be held in the North Bund of Hongkou District in Shanghai from November 3 to 5.

The forum, organized by the Ministry of Transport and Shanghai Municipal People's Government, targets analyzing the development and restructuring of international shipping industry under the spirit of opening and inclusiveness, innovation and reform, and cooperation and win-win.

Zhang Wei, vice mayor of Shanghai, said the east China-located metropolis will strive to craft the forum into a platform for international shipping sector to communicate and incubate governance rules, for China and international community to release key shipping policies, and for Shanghai to showcase its international shipping center construction.

During the forum, the 2021 Shanghai Initiative will be unveiled together with a series of key achievements on shipping economy, port development, energy saving and emission reduction.

Currently, Hongkou District, one of the cradles of modern shipping industry in Shanghai, has pooled as many as 4,700 shipping enterprises. In every square kilometer, there are 197 shipping companies in the district, making it an area with the highest density of shipping enterprises in China.

Over the past two decades, the shipping industry of North Bund was upgraded from the past "old wharfs" to a shipping service headquarter now and facilitates modern shipping service system construction, said Zhou Rong, vice head of Hongkou District government.

In the future, Shanghai will continue to deepen the depth and width of international cooperation and pour great efforts to cultivate international and national-level professional shipping organizations and functional institutions, said Yu Fulin, head of Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission.

Moreover, the city will also support and encourage shipping service giants to go global and actively participate in international shipping cooperation in Belt and Road markets, added Yu.
