S. China's Guangzhou port launches first Central Asia-bound freight train

BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou port in south China's Guangdong Province launched the first Central Asia-bound freight train last Saturday.

The train loaded with a total of 100 containers involving household appliances, hardware products and daily necessities worth about 1.7 million U.S. dollars, will reach Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan after leaving China via Horgos Port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The whole journey is expected to take about 14 days.

Compared with the previous rail cargo transport, the freight train helps lower cost and enhance transport efficiency.

At present, Guangzhou port has actively made efforts to strengthen logistics services to boost exports of goods made in Guangdong Province.

Earlier in April this year, it launched the China-Europe freight train service with the destination at Malaszewicze, Poland. So far, Guangzhou port has seen 10 trips made by such freight trains, with the export goods expanding to industrial raw materials, clothing and household appliances from electronic products.
