BERLIN, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Michael Kirsch, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Porsche Japan, will become president and CEO of Porsche China as well as Porsche Hong Kong and Macaofrom June 2022, the German luxury sports carmaker announced on Tuesday.

Kirsch has already served as COO for Porsche in China from 2012 to 2016. Kirsch has been CEO of Porsche Japan since 2019. Previously he held the same position at Porsche Korea for three years.

"In his various roles, Michael Kirsch has contributed to successfully developing Porsche in Asia, and he is the ideal choice as CEO of Porsche China - one of our most important markets worldwide," said Detlev von Platen, member of the executive board responsible for sales and marketing.

China has been Porsche's biggest single market since 2015. The German sports car manufacturer achieved another record year in 2021; sales increased by eight percent year-on-year to 95,671 vehicles, "despite challenges due to supply bottlenecks."

Meanwhile, Kirsch's predecessor Jens Puttfarcken will move to the Volkswagen group's sister company Audi after almost 25 years at Porsche, to become European sales chief.
