PowerChina-backed desalination project in Saudi Arabia put into operation

Constructed by SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China(PowerChina), the world's largest reverse osmosis desalination facility, Saudi Arabia Rabigh Phase III seawater desalination plant commissioning ceremony was held on March 31,  2 months ahead of schedule, reported ce.cn on Friday.

The plant adopts the world's advanced reverse osmosis(RO) technology, with a daily freshwater output of 600,000 cubic meters, it will provide basic domestic water to more than 2 million households in major Saudi cities.

It is learned during the construction period of the project, more than 3,500 jobs were created for the local people, and the procurement of local equipment and materials accounted for 40 percent of total , directly contributing around 200 million U.S. dollars to local GDP, thus driving the economic growth of Saudi Arabia.

PowerChina is one of the largest seawater desalination construction companies in the world.
