Chinese Language Day held in Zambia

LUSAKA, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese embassy in Zambia hosted the International Chinese Language Day with an official saying that learning of the Chinese language has built a people-to-people bond.

The event was held on Wednesday in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia under the theme "Together for a Bright Future", according to a statement released by the embassy on Thursday.

The event was attended by Lai Bo, the Minister Counselor at the embassy and Tamala Tonga-Kambikambi, the acting Vice-Chancellor at the University of Zambia, among other dignitaries.

The event was characterized by the demonstration of Chinese handwriting and paintings by teachers and students of the Confucius Institute as well as the performance of traditional Chinese musical instruments.

In his address, Lai expressed gratitude for the achievements in Chinese language education in Zambia.

He said Chinese language education has acted as a bridge of mutual learning between civilizations and built a better future for cultural communication.

The official hoped that Chinese language learners in Zambia will master the language and enjoy the Chinese culture.

According to him, the Chinese and Zambian people will gather support for the future of world peace, paving the way for the future of mutual assistance and win-win cooperation as well as opening the door to the future of mutual trust and mutual learning.

On her part, Tonga-Kambikambi commended China for its assistance to Zambia's education and economic development.

She said the university was willing to work with China to promote the development of Chinese language education and cooperation in various fields between the two countries.
