The first unit of Cambodia-located Sihanoukville power plant project developed by China Huadian Corporation (CHD), one of China's top five power generation companies, officially kicked off operation on Monday after passing a required full load testing, reported Chinanews.com.

The power plant project situated in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk Province of Cambodia will build two 350 MW supercritical coal-fired power units with a total installed capacity of 700 MW. An 8,000-tonne coal berth and a 2,000-tonne heavy cargo berth will also be built.

The project is the largest thermal power generation project invested by CHD in Cambodia.

Construction of the project began on August 18, 2020. When operational, it will help improve Cambodia's power mix and electricity infrastructure.
