East China's Jiangsu Province registered a record high in the number of freight trains and freight volume with European as well as Asian countries and regions in 2022, with 1,973 freight trains carrying 142,000 TEUs of goods, respectively, up 9.6 percent and 11.5 percent year on year, according to Nanjing Customs.

The stability and high timeliness of the freight train service have helped many local enterprises alleviate logistics issues caused by the Covid-19 epidemic.

In 2022, international freight train service in Jiangsu helped more products from China's Yangtze River Delta region enter foreign markets, while the steady operation of inbound trains has expanded the scale of Jiangsu’s foreign economic and trade cooperation, and enhanced the transport efficiency of the freight trains.

According to the Nanjing Customs, in 2022, the customs supervised a total of 5,243.95 tonnes of goods in 640 TEUs loaded by the freight trains. Meanwhile, the simplified customs clearance procedures implemented by the customs saved two to three days for a single shipment of freight trains, and reduced about 20 percent of cost of goods declaration for enterprises.

It is noted that Jiangsu province will continue to optimize the operation of China-Europe freight trains and sea-rail intermodal transport mode to further facilitate the cross-border transport of China-Europe freight trains.
