Uzbekistan intends to strengthen cooperation with China on the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, which is indicated in the Priority Directions for the Development of Foreign Policy and External Economic Cooperation of Uzbekistan with major foreign partners in the medium term, published on April 9.

The document was signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev last week.

Priority directions of Uzbekistan in the development of bilateral relations with China include the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, the modernization of infrastructure and agriculture, as well as attracting Chinese funds and technologies for the construction of industrial parks.

According to the document, Uzbekistan intends to build the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway together with China. It also plans to increase exports to the eastern country, and expand the bilateral trade volume to US$10 billion by 2020.

Strengthening cooperation with the other Central Asian countries is the first priority direction of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy, as indicated in the document.
