Xi meets several countries leaders during BRICS Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping here on Thursday met with his Brazilian counterpart Michel Temer on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS summit, calling on the two countries to strengthen solidarity and coordination.

"China and Brazil, as the largest developing country and emerging market in the eastern and western hemisphere respectively, should boost solidarity and coordination and pursue common development under the current situation, so as to inject positive energy into the two regions and contribute to world stability and prosperity," Xi said.

Referring to China-Brazil bilateral relationship as a "mature and vibrant" one between major developing countries, he said their ties were built on the basis of mutual respect, equality, and win-win benefits.

Xi called for more guidance and coordination on the two countries' exchanges and cooperation across the board, so as to promote trade liberalization and facilitation in bids to push forward a quality growth of their bilateral trade.

He also urged the two sides to discuss the synergy of the Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil's development strategies like the Investment Partnerships Program, strengthen cooperation on innovation and flagship projects, and beef up people-to-people exchanges.

"China stands ready to join hands with Brazil to advance China-Latin America cooperation and push the economic and trade cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries to a higher level," he said, adding that China supports Brazil in hosting the next BRICS summit.

For his part, Temer said that Brazil attaches high importance to the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in such areas as trade, investment, infrastructure, and energy.

The comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries is strong and mutually beneficial, he said, calling on the two countries to strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional affairs, promote solidarity and cooperation among the BRICS members, and jointly safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

Brazil stands ready to make contribution to the development of ties between Latin America and China, Temer said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, met here on Thursday and exchanged in-depth views on current international situation.

The two heads of state held a meeting and also had dinner together on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

During the meeting, they also touched upon major issues of common concern.

The 10th BRICS summit is running from Wednesday to Friday under the theme of "BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the Fourth Industrial Revolution."

Chinese President Xi Jinping said here Thursday that China is willing to consolidate and develop a closer development partnership with India.

Xi made the remarks while meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is their third meeting in three months.

"We have provided a top-level design for bilateral ties in a macroscopic perspective and a timely fashion, which is conducive to mobilizing the positive elements of all sectors in both countries and uniting the wills of the 2.6 billion people of the two countries, so as to form a force that would push bilateral ties into the future," he said.

Xi said the Chinese side is ready to work with the Indian side to carry forward the fresh impetus of bilateral relations since their informal meeting in China's central city of Wuhan in April.

The Chinese leader called on the two sides to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders at the Wuhan meeting.

He called on the two sides to strengthen strategic communication, increase mutual trust, promote practical cooperation, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges, strengthen dialogue and properly manage differences.

Both China and India are countries of ancient civilizations, and have made important contributions to the advancement of human civilization, said Xi.

Today, as major emerging market economies, as well as vindicators and contributors of the current international order, China and India should strengthen bilateral cooperation, while exploring a new model for regional cooperation, upholding multilateralism, championing economic globalization and striving for a more just and rational international order.

Modi said he and Xi had met three times in three months, and that can fully display the two countries enjoy a high-level bilateral relationship.

The Wuhan meeting is of milestone significance in the history of India-China relations, which has greatly increased their mutual trust, and will bring new impetus and opportunities to the long-term development of bilateral relations, he said.

The Indian side is ready to keep close dialogue and communication with the Chinese side, deepen cooperation in various fields, properly address differences, strengthen cooperation within a multilateral framework, and jointly handle such challenges facing developing countries and emerging market countries as protectionism and global market fluctuations to advance their closer development partnership, Modi said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said here on Thursday that China is willing to work with Argentina to make contributions to safeguarding the multilateral trading system and improving global governance.

Xi made the remarks when meeting with his Argentine counterpart, Mauricio Macri, on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on July 25-27.

Unilateralism and protectionism are currently on the rise, said Xi, adding that emerging markets and developing countries are facing an increasing number of challenges.

"As a sincere friend and a cooperative partner of Argentina, China supports Argentina's efforts in maintaining economic and financial stability and is willing to continue to provide assistance within our capacity," Xi said.

China has full confidence in Argentina's development prospect and the future of China-Argentina cooperation, said Xi.

The two sides should advance the joint construction of the Belt and Road, align their important development plans, expand cooperation in economy, trade, energy, mining industry and financing, promote trade liberalization and facilitation, and give full play to new cooperative models, Xi added.

China supports Argentina in hosting this year's Group of 20 (G20) summit, Xi said.

Macri thanked China for providing precious assistance to Argentina for overcoming economic difficulties and stabilizing the financial market.

Argentina is committed to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, said Macri.

Argentina hopes that the two sides could boost high-level exchanges and expand cooperation in such areas as energy, manufacturing, aviation, investment, financing and tourism, Macri added.

Argentina opposes trade protectionism and is willing to work together with China to ensure a successful G20 summit this year so as to promote international cooperation, Macri said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said here on Thursday that China is ready to deepen friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields with Uganda in an all-round way.

Xi made the remarks when meeting with his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS summit held in Johannesburg on July 25-27.

The Chinese president applauded Museveni for his long-term dedication to the promotion of the development of China-Uganda relations as well as China-Africa relations.

Xi stressed that China and Uganda have seen sustained and rapid development of bilateral relations in recent years.

Development strategies of the two countries are compatible and present each other with important opportunities, Xi said.

He called on the two countries to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges and continue to staunchly support each other on issues of their core interests and major concern.

The Chinese side supports the efforts of the Ugandan side in developing economy and improving people's livelihood, and is ready to steadily advance major cooperative projects jointly with Uganda to better benefit the two peoples, Xi said.

Xi called on China and Uganda to keep close communication on major international and regional hotspot issues and safeguard the common interests of the two countries and developing countries as a whole.

Xi said that the Ugandan president has made important contributions to the development of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and that China is willing to work with Africa to make the upcoming FOCAC Beijing summit a success.

Museveni said Uganda-China relations have seen strong development momentum.

He thanked China for its long-term assistance to his country and said he is satisfied with the progress made in bilateral cooperation.

Uganda hopes to deepen practical cooperation with China in such areas as industrial parks, infrastructure construction and electric power, and welcomes more Chinese companies to invest and develop in Uganda, he said.

Museveni said the Ugandan side supports the Chinese side in hosting a successful FOCAC summit in Beijing.
