The 2×660MW Hunutlu Coal-fired Power Plant in Turkey built by Energy China lies in the Gulf of Iskenderun, which is listed among the most important spawning and breeding areas for green sea turtles (endangered species) and loggerhead (vulnerable species) on the IUCN Red List. The project department proactively invited Turkish turtle preservation experts to provide the full-staff management training and strictly implemented the Special Rules for Protecting Sea Turtles (version with expert signatures). Volunteers were organized by the department to clean up the garbage on the beach like plastic bags and tins, clearing the path for baby turtles to return to the sea and providing a life channel for turtle reproduction. The move was highly praised and widely reported by Turkish Radio and Television (TRT).
