KUWAIT CITY, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The soft opening ceremony of a hospital built by a Chinese company was held in Ahmadi, Kuwait, on Sunday.

The Kuwait Health Assurance Hospitals project undertaken by Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd exclusively provides medical insurance services to foreigners. It includes two hospitals in Ahmadi and Al Jahra, with a total construction area of approximately 85,000 square meters and a contract value of around 500 million U.S. dollars.

Chairman of Health Assurance Hospitals Company, Mutlaq Al-Sanea and Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei attended the ceremony.

As one of the first hospitals to be built under Kuwait's "National Vision 2035," the project will improve basic medical services in Kuwait and has been closely watched by society since construction commenced.

Mutlaq Al-Sanea said at the ceremony that the two hospitals were of the highest quality.

The project is the work of both China and Kuwait, the Chinese ambassador said in his speech, adding that it is another witness of China's active promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, Kuwait's "2035 National Vision" and the continuous deepening of bilateral cooperation.

Kuwait's expatriate population, the country's main labor source, is nearly 2.8 million, according to Kuwait's Central Bureau of Statistics. Completing the Health Assurance Hospitals will help alleviate the pressure on the country's medical resources.
