The Group is highly internationalized as the routes under its operation covers above 1,500 ports in more than 160 countries and regions.



      COSCO Shipping Group has actively responded to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), upholding the development philosophy of "wide consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits" and the value concept of "mutual benefits and win-win results", continuing the investment and deployment in fields of shipping routes, ports and integrated logistics in the Belt and Road countries and regions, and building the "shipping plus port plus logistics" transport corridor. Based on harmonized growth together with local economy, the Group strives to promote global connectivity and economic and trade development. So far, the Group has invested 64.2 billion yuan in the Belt and Road countries and regions, with the projects including 20 container terminals. The Group's container fleet has set up 195 container liner routes connecting the BRI countries and regions, with a total transport capacity of 2.03 million TEUs, accounting for 68 percent of the Group's total container fleet capacity.     On January 4, approved by the State Council, China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO) and China Shipping (Group) Company were reorganized to form China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited. On February 18, China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited was formally established in Shanghai.

  • 2016.04

    On April 8, COSCO Shipping Group and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) formally signed the Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA) equity transfer agreement and shareholder agreement, which marked the milestone progress of the Group's acquisition of 67 percent equity of the Piraeus Port. On August 10, the Group formally took over the port.

    On June 26, the opening ceremony of the new ship's lock of the Panama Canal was held. The COSCO Shipping Panama was the first new Panamax vessel and the unique one on that day to pass through the new lock, and was recorded in the international maritime history.

    On September 28, COSCO Shipping Ports Limited, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Group, formally signed a concession agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports. According to the agreement, the two sides would set up a joint venture to build and operate the second-phase container terminal project in the Khalifa Port of UAE.

    COSCO SHIPPING Holdings Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING, ranked 104th on Forbes' list of "Most Trustworthy Companies", the only shipping company in the world to receive this honor.

    On July 24, COSCO SHIPPING acquired Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) through a tender offer. After the acquisition, its container fleet capacity reached nearly 3 million TEUs. This development catapulted COSCO SHIPPING into the top tier of the global liner industry.

  • 2019.05

    On May 13, a formal delivery ceremony of the Group's Chancay Terminal project in Peru was held in the presidential palace in Lima, the capital of Peru. Chancay Terminal is the first greenfield project controlled by COSCO SHIPPING in South America.

    On May 11, COSCO SHIPPING joined hands with China Mobile and Dongfeng Motor and launched China's first smart port with a full-scenario application of 5G technology at the Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal in southeast China's Fujian Province.

    On September 28, the container route of "Yangpu – South Pacific – Australia" was officially launched into operation by COSCO SHIPPING at the Xiaochantan Terminal in Yangpu of south China's Hainan Province, which is the first intercontinental route of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

    On March 17, Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN), the world's first independent, not-for-profit shipping blockchain technology consortium led by COSCO SHIPPING, was successfully incorporated and officially put into operation in Hong Kong after being approved by relevant regulatory authorities around the globe.

    On August 1, the Wuhan Yangluo International Port Water-Rail Intermodal Container Transport Project commenced operation, which was a significant outcome of the strategic partnership between COSCO SHIPPING and Wuhan, the capital city of central China's Hubei Province.

COSCO Shipping Group has always attached great importance to charity activities and actively fulfilled corporate social responsibilities, helping improve the well-being of people around the world. As of December 31, 2021, the Group had totally donated 986 million yuan and organized 754 charity programs through the COSCO Shipping Charity Foundation. In 2021, the Foundation donated 134 million yuan and organized 57 charity programs.
